At one time or another we can all feel that the drudgery of life is wearing us down. The commute, the school run… you get the picture. But if you can step back from that mindset for even a second you’ll see that in 2014 we’re freer than ever.

We can access information whenever and wherever we want, connect with friends and family instantly and travel around the world at our convenience.

Everyday freedoms

Yet when we think of travel we tend to think of jumping on a plane to somewhere hot and sunny and often forget the freedom granted by the cars we use everyday.

Take your Civic Tourer to France through the Channel Tunnel

Dream wants to reclaim the car as the ultimate in personal freedom and the new Honda Civic Tourer i-DTEC is the perfect tool in which to do just that…

Taking the Civic Tourer to Chamonix

When the channel tunnel shudders to a halt and we emerge blinking into the warm Spring French sunshine that sense of freedom seems to wash over the car.

There’s just something incredibly liberating about rolling onto European soil and aiming, well, anywhere you like. With the new Civic Tourer i-DTEC, which utilises Earth Dreams Technology for maximum efficiency and is capable of 78.5mpg*, the whole continent seems to be within easy striking distance. A range of up to 817-miles means driver and passengers will need fuel long before the Civic…

Civic Tourer on road to Chamonix

Drive to the Alps across France’s flat, empty autoroutes before starting your climb up the mountain in the new Civic Tourer

The flat, empty Autoroutes of northern France are not the stuff of which dreams are made but there’s something satisfying, almost hypnotic about the miles clicking off with no interruption.

Civilised way to travel

We’re heading south-east in search of the last snow of the year and as Reims, Troyes and Dijon disappear behind and signs for Geneva start to zip overhead as night sets in, the filmic sense of adventure ramps up. It makes the grim reality of airport security and a budget airline seem very mundane indeed.

Skirting around Switzerland and then climbing through long sweeping bends under soft yellow sodium lights, the first signs of snow start to creep towards the edge of the road. Minutes later it’s piled high and glowing icy-blue under the gaze of the xenon headlights. By the time we reach Chamonix in the early hours of the morning it’s calf-deep and the winter tyres scrunch to a halt, light snow still floating down.

Comfortable drive

By morning the long drive is almost forgotten. The Civic Tourer covered well over 700 miles yesterday but thanks to class-leading luggage space, the world-first Adaptive Damper System that adjusts the rear suspension for maximum comfort and stability depending on varying loads and driving conditions, plus its quiet refinement, driver and passengers alike feel refreshed and ready for the slopes after a night’s sleep.

As the gondola lift climbs up La Flégère it’s hard to imagine feeling freer, more alive than this.

The freedom of the road

Of course this is just one journey plucked from endless possibilities. Your journey might be different, but wherever you choose to go, we recommend that before you book a flight you open a map and plot your very own roadtrip.

There’s no finer way to start a holiday and no finer way to watch the landscape change before your very eyes.
