Earlier this week it was announced that four of our Honda cars, on sale in the UK today, have taken the lead with their class leading boot space. We thought we’d celebrate this by finding a way to put the space to a good use for a great cause.

What do most people fill their car up with on a weekly basis? Food shopping.
However not all people have this luxury – with thirteen million people living below the poverty line in the UK, many individuals and families go hungry every day, for reasons sometimes beyond their control.
Honda UK has partnered with The Trussel Trust; a fantastic charity that has a 400-strong network of foodbanks that provide valuable support to those in crisis. A simple box of food makes a big difference, helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.

Over the course of a week we collected over 225kg of essential food items, which were then dropped off at the local food bank storage centre in Bracknell. The donations are then sorted out into individual crates which become food packs for lower income individuals and families, all in need of a little help. Once sorted, The Trussel Trust distributes the food packs at a number of centres throughout the UK, all manned by their dedicated team of over 40,000 volunteers.
Foodbanks also offer a lot more than food. Volunteers provide a listening ear to clients over a warm drink, and signpost people to other charities and agencies who can help resolve the underlying cause of the crisis.
Following the success of the foodbank collection, the activity has prompted us to do a little bit more and hold a regular foodbank collection centre here at Honda HQ.
