Three of Honda’s racing stars warmed up for Triathlon Show: 2016 last week in a unique Honda-powered challenge which saw them compete in a boat, on a motorcycle and in a car.
Fighting it out for the title in the inaugural Honda-powered triathlon were British Touring Car Championship driver, Matt Neal, alongside British Superbike Riders Jenny Tinmouth and Dan Linfoot. Making up the quartet in a race as much against Storm Henry as it was against each other was motorcycle journalist, Jonathan Pearson.

The Honda-powered challenge saw the competitive bunch fight howling winds of up to 70mph to pilot a 10 horsepower Honwave inflatable boat around a lake, followed by a tricky skip around the woods on a Honda CRF 250 dirt bike, before crossing the finishing line having completed an off and on road course in a Honda CR-V.

The quirky take on the swim, bike, run event took place at the Cholmondeley Estate in Cheshire to mark Honda’s sponsorship of Triathlon Show: 2016 which starts this Thursday. In a hard-fought shoot-out motorcycle journalist Jonathan Pearson emerged triumphant overall, followed closely by Dan, with Jenny pipping Matt to confine the BTCC star to pick up the wooden spoon.

Matt Neal comments: “The competitor in me is devastated to have come last – but those bikers just don’t play fair! All I can say is that at six foot seven a small inflatable boat and a dirt bike are not my ideal modes of transport…but I did at least win the car leg in the CR-V! It was a lot of fun, albeit a bit chilly, and we definitely proved that you can go anywhere in or on a Honda.”

Honda (UK) will be one of the headline sponsors for the Triathlon Show: London 2016, being held at ExCel London from 11th – 14th February 2016. The event will see Honda debut the Civic Tourer Active Life Concept, designed to meet all the needs of the touring cyclist, as well as its entire line-up of new cars launched in 2015. On display will be the HR-V, Jazz, CR-V, Civic Tourer, Civic five-door and Civic Type R models – all set up to highlight the very many versatile and practical solutions that they have to offer. Visitors will also be able to experience the CR-V, HR-V and Civic Tourer first hand on a test drive track facility on site.
Ideal for the active-lifestyler, the all-new HR-V marries the practicality and versatility of an SUV with the refinement and drive of a car. ‘It’s not just reliability, performance and trust that we are famed for,’ said Philip Crossman, Managing Director of Honda UK, ‘our clever design and engineering excellence also puts us ahead of our competitors. And with the average family of tri-athletes having to transport bikes, trainers, swimming kit, towels, running gear, etc – they need all the space they can get.’
